Resolved Question: "Great" place to live around naval base in Everett, WA?

My husband and I are relocated to the Everett Naval Base (Everett, WA) from Charleston, SC. We'd like to buy a single family home, off base, but we've never visited WA and I don't know anything about the "personalities" of Everett's surrounding areas. I'm about to talk to a realtor but if anyone could help me out with what the vibe is like for areas around Everett and Everett included, I'd be really grateful! Here's what we're looking for: At most 40 min away from everett base, including traffic. Homes as nice/new as poss b/w 150-200k. Lively center...not just walmart, chinese restaurant and a mall. Cultural activities? I've skimmed some towns from various blogs but I don't know anything about them: Bothell?
